The Role

As a Process Automation Engineer, you will be the technical specialist for process automation, control systems, and functional safety. You will help ensure that complex industrial installations operate safely, reliably, and efficiently while supporting both day-to-day operations and strategic improvement projects.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams regarding process control and safety systems.
• Design, develop, and implement modifications to automation and control systems.
• Define, manage, and supervise outsourced automation engineering activities.
• Collaborate with Process Engineers and other stakeholders to develop technical solutions and project scopes.
• Lead the investigation and resolution of complex issues related to DCS, PSS, and Fire & Gas systems.
• Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, and other safety and risk assessment studies.
• Execute automation functional testing during commissioning and startup phases.
• Advise, coordinate, and manage engineering contractors involved in studies, upgrade projects, and system replacement initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree (BSc/HTS) in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience within Instrumentation & Control or Process Automation environments.
• Hands-on experience with DCS, PSS, and Fire & Gas systems.
• Knowledge of OT Cybersecurity principles (IEC 62443).
• Experience with HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL studies.
• Experience developing and modifying control logic, HMI graphics, and alarm systems.
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as OPC and Modbus (RTU and TCP/IP).
• Experience with Yokogawa control and safety systems is highly desirable.
• TÜV Functional Safety certification (IEC 61511) is considered a strong advantage.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong command of the English language.
• Currently living in the Netherlands.
