Are you an experienced offshore engineer with a strong background in subsea power cable installation, burial or repair? For an international contractor active in the offshore energy industry, we are looking for a Lead Project Engineer – Offshore Cables.

In this position, you will take the technical lead on complex offshore cable projects. You will be involved from engineering and preparation through mobilisation and offshore execution, working closely with project teams, clients, suppliers and offshore crews.
 

The role

As Lead Project Engineer, you are responsible for translating project requirements into safe, practical and technically sound solutions for offshore execution.

You will coordinate the engineering activities within your projects and provide technical direction to Project Engineers and specialist engineers. Rather than focusing solely on detailed engineering, your role is to maintain the technical overview, challenge proposed solutions and ensure that engineering, equipment and offshore operations work together effectively.

Projects can include the installation, burial and repair of subsea power cables, including inter-array and export cables used within the offshore renewable energy sector.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the technical preparation and engineering of offshore cable projects;
• Coordinating and supporting Project Engineers and technical specialists;
• Reviewing engineering deliverables, procedures, drawings and technical documentation;
• Developing practical installation and execution methods together with the project team;
• Acting as a key technical interface between clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams;
• Supporting the selection and application of vessels, tools and project equipment;
• Identifying technical risks and ensuring suitable solutions are developed before offshore execution;
• Coordinating technical activities during vessel mobilisation and demobilisation;
• Working closely with offshore teams to ensure a smooth transition from engineering to execution;
• Supporting the Project Manager with technical, planning and commercial considerations;
• Assessing the impact of technical changes on project scope, schedule and cost;
• Participating in project briefings, technical reviews and lessons-learned sessions.

Depending on the project, you may occasionally travel to project locations or work offshore. You may also take on additional project management responsibilities when required.
 

What are we looking for?

For this position, practical experience within offshore cable installation is essential. You understand what is required to turn an engineering concept into an operation that can actually be executed safely and efficiently offshore.

Ideally, you bring:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Marine Engineering or a comparable technical discipline;
• At least 7 years of relevant experience within offshore/subsea projects;
• Demonstrable experience with offshore power cable installation, cable burial and/or cable repair;
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities within complex projects;
• The ability to lead and technically support engineers while maintaining the overall project perspective;
• Experience working with clients, subcontractors, equipment suppliers and offshore operations;
• A practical, solution-oriented approach to engineering;
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills;
• Professional proficiency in English.

Experience in closely related subsea installation activities may also be relevant, particularly when combined with strong technical leadership and interface management experience.
